On 12 September 2015 the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine No. 667 which approves the Regulation on State Service of Ukraine on Food Safety and Consumer Protection dated 2 September 2015 came into legal force.
The newly created State Service of Ukraine on Food Safety and Consumer Protection was established through reorganization of State Veterinary and Phytosanitary Service by combining it with the State Inspection of Ukraine on Consumer Rights Protection and the State Sanitary and Epidemiological Service of Ukraine.
As a result, the State Service of Ukraine on Food Safety and Consumer Protection has now become the central body of executive authority, main tasks of which include the following:
Real levers of control were provided to the State Service of Ukraine on Food Safety and Consumer Protection in view of enabling the latter to perform tasks entrusted upon it and counteract legislative infringements. As per the Regulation, the State Service of Ukraine on Food Safety and Consumer Protection is vested with the following authorities:
To note, in accordance with existing legislation, the State Service also acts as licensing body for veterinary medicine practice.
