In order to optimize management of healthcare facilities the Ministry of Health of Ukraine by its order "On Amending the Guide on Qualification Characteristics of Professions. Issue 78 "Healthcare" No. 1977 as of October 31st, 2018 approved the changes.
From January 1st, 2019 qualification requirements to heads of healthcare facilities change: candidates with higher education in areas "Management and Administration", "Law", "Humanitarian Sciences" and "Healthcare" (major in "Healthcare Organization and Management") will be able to hold office of the head upon contest. Chief physician office will be replaced with a new position – medical director. Functions of director and medical director of healthcare facilities will be clearly differentiated as follows: director of the facility will deal with commercial activities matters; medical director – exclusively medical matters. The novelty will be implemented without redundancy, all chief physicians and other medical workers will carry out their functions without any change by the time of their contract termination.
